Solar power and crosscut saws

I have a small off grid solar system and I have experience using and sharpening crosscut saws if anyone is interested in discussing these topics. Knowing how to use and sharpen a crosscut saw might come in handy in a situation where we can't get gas.
Being able to sharpen a cross cut saw may be one of the most undervalued skills in the prepper/homestead community.

I'm off grid but have no experience with cross cut saw. Where do I begin?

Go to crosscut saw co. website and order the book crosscut saw manual by warren miller. It's helped me immensely. Also if you're looking for used saws at yard sales and flea markets, stay away from those that are rusted. They seem to be very brittle and the teeth break when trying to set them. The Tuttle tooth design is best for cutting hardwood and the lance tooth design for softwood. You can see the difference in the two at their website. I heat and cook solely with wood so I wanted to learn how to use them when times get hard and we can't get gas

Any experience with scythes? I've been wanting to try them.
I've got an old hay scythe, sharpened it well (following instructions), practiced a lot - then gave up on it and bought a linetrimmer... :-)

I am sure the light, modern European scythes are better than old hay scythes for the sort of things preppers want to use scythes for, and some people are very good at it. It's just something that takes a lot of time to master, and we don't all have the time to invest in everything.

Thank you ☺️
