Long story short:
We had off year, non-general local elections in my area recently. The area has been historically moderate Nixonian conservative for many years. The moderate, non MAGA Republican folks got wiped out in numbers not seen before. Even though it’s a non-partisan, local issue election, the local Dems made it all about ICE and keeping Trump out of our area.
They were registering people like crazy and going door to door to pick up ballots. It was CRAZY! I knew something like this might be brewing.
The loss of Charlie Kirk and his organization skills was very much a factor, but apathy and disappointment at the lack of results in most red areas (except immigration) made the hill hard to climb.
Don’t forget demographics shifts. The California/NewYork exodus is making Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina and other parts of the south turn purple. Arizona is pretty much a suburb of Los Angeles. The whole state has been Californicated.

The most likely person to exit California isn't Progressive, but libertarian/hardcore conservative which implies voting for Republicans.
Notice that Abbots votes are not reduced proportionally, the Dems found a way to add votes in a smoother way than the 2 am ballot drop.
Trump took this loss sitting down, which is very out of character for him. I believe that his response will be a legal one, and very devastating to the other side. He has 45 days from the 3rd. In the meantime we completely avoided any physical protests by the left. Who had that on their Bingo card?

Maybe. I’m not saying no. But im not discounting organization at very high levels. When you have anywhere from 30-40% of eligible voters that don’t vote, it’s a huge pool to go fishing in.
Ask people who actually live in one of the states I mentioned if the hardcore conservative is the only person coming and going. Prosperity and better quality of life attracts all kinds.
But hardcore progressive won't be coming to state banning child being trans and no gun control laws.
They will if they can get a three bedroom house and a decent job.

Just look at Texas and North Carolina.
I remember finding research that most movers from Massachusetts to New Hampshire weren't liberals.
Same situation as with California and Texas. It doesn't happen usually.
There is great division in society where people go where others like them live. Why would Californian progressive move to Florida where he won't be having social circle and be keep example to be shamed?
What normal person goes to live among people who hate him?
I believe that I shared story how some Californian commie come to Florida only to find new aligator every day in backward throw in by his drunk conservative neighbor.
Anecdotes don’t equal reality.
No state even comes close to voting 80/20 or 90/10. Even commifornia will only go about as far as 60/40 on the regular. That 40% out of 40 million is a lot of people not committed to the Dems.
On national level there are more registered Republicans than Democrats in last few years and yet during election 19M more Democrats show up.
