Creating a good relationship with new SW

I like to brainstorm, create and plan. That has always been my personality. Nathan calls me his good idea fairy, haha! Planning for being a sw is no different for me. I wanted to share something that I am getting positive value from at the present moment and hopefully will translate in helping build a healthy strong sw bond. Maybe it's an act that will help you get excited over your future sw! It's much harder to resent or feel jealousy over someone you are invested in. I have decided to put my passion for creating and giving to use in starting a sister wife hope chest that I will give to my hubby's special lady some day. Of course we have not met her yet, so I have no idea about her tastes. There is a chance she will not like anything I put in the box and that's okay, because this exercise is not about the material gifts. It's about investing and choosing to love someone before you meet her so that when you do, you already love her and have invested in her. The good feelings you get from collecting pretty things for her, will translate over into your relationship with her and you will associate those feelings with her!! Even if the new wife doesn't like the items in the box, your thoughtfulness and care WILL mean more to her and make her feel wanted by you. If anyone else would like to start a similar project, I would love to share ideas. Today when I went to go pick up my ring I had resized, I found the most beautiful dainty pink, green and blue natural sapphire necklace! It is a watermelon slice. I was instantly drawn to it because watermelon is something we always take on our yearly camping trip. Camping is my happy place with my hubby. This necklace represents her joining that happy place every year with us! I have also added letters, picture frame with handsome hubby, a journal, cute little trinkets, and other meaningful mementos. I am not against adding practical stuff, but I feel adding sentimental and beautiful things says, "I care so much about you that I want to give you gifts for your pleasure." I am a bargain hunter, and I love to find quality pieces for a good price. My goal is not to fill this box with lots of stuff. My goal is to have meaning behind each item. Something that says, "I am inviting you into my world and want you here"........if my sister wife doesn't like this necklace I hope she will let me borrow it a time or two, Haha!

Beautiful idea!

I have long thought of prayer as something that helps the one praying. I think it helps the one asking for guidance, protection, or whatever be more mindful of their own thoughts and actions.

Your idea is like that. :)

@Jennifer--what a jewel you are! How unique, genuine, and proactive--I absolutely love it!! You've got me thinking. I can't be in your shoes right now since I am a widow. However, I do desire to remarry and hope it will be in a plural family. That is my first choice. So, why couldn't I take your same idea and reverse play it?!? Starting something I could bless FW with would be an activity that could span the time between now and when God's plan begins to unfold. Way to go girl--you rock!

My first thought was, 'pray for the future wife.' Of course, the hope chest is a tangible way to show live and caring, inclusion, etc. Then it hit me... how many stories have we heard of spouses that prayed for their future mate, even asking for specifics, and God answered exactly. For example, I recently read of a lady that in her teens purchased a tie to remind her daily to pray for her husband. She gave him the tie the day before their wedding only to realize it was in the color scheme of the wedding party. He wore it their wedding day!

The point? As you pray for your future sw, I believe Abba will bless you with leading you to the perfect meaningful items for the hope chest... the physical and spiritual will be connected.

just a thought.

Blessings.

Very good point and I will be doing this .
I feel it is important to add to pray what qualities you both are looking for .
And I want to love my sister for who she is and pray we grow close and get on well I'd have help pick her.
