• Biblical Families is not a dating website. It is a forum to discuss issues relating to marriage and the Bible, and to offer guidance and support, not to find a wife. Click here for more information.

Hello to the Community

Well, I am known as the Hollywood Hillbilly here in Los Angeles. I was actually born to Jewish Parents in Santa Monica....California Pioneering Jews from the 1860’s. Became LDS through Actress Sharon Tate’s Stand In and my Police Patrol Partner. My interests are in animal rescue and comparative religions. I am also very politically connected. After my divorce 13 years ago I have become Down on Marriage, or at least where a Government Marriage Certificate is Concerned.

Welcome!

Shalom and welcome.

Welcome, Jerry! I hope we can be some support to you in whatever God has for your life.

Thanks Julieb, Heavenly Father gave me a heart and gifts in saving Dogs, Cats and Horses.
Hence my Celestial Family will be over 2,000 Children Wearing Fur Coats. Ha Ha.
Before people get upset, I had a Stake President that thought I was wasting my time with rescued animals as Children. One day he pulled me aside after having “Direct Revealation” and told me to continue because I was acting directly in accordance with Heavenly Father.
I just wish more people were involved.
More later

Hi Jerry, and welcome to Biblical families.
Just to make it clear, this is a Christian website, and although there are Mormons on here they are few and far between. We don't generally agree with the concept of celestial marriage etc, so it's not really something that is discussed on here.
Also, this is a website for fellowship with other Christians about family and marriage, plural or otherwise. It's not a dating site.
Aside from that, welcome aboard. I hope you find this a place that you can discuss biblical matters and learn from others in a productive way.

Hollywood Hillbilly - hope you feel more welcome and comfy to know I'm a hillbilly from Kentucky, now in Alaska, and while my family and I don't believe in D&C, and a lot of Mormon traditions such as celestial marriage, prohibition of drinking alcohol or hot caffeinated beverages, nor do we believe Joseph Smith was a true prophet up until his death, we do believe the Book of Mormon is inspired after reading it ourselves, without the interpretation of the Mormon elders. Kind of like there are those who call themselves Christian or Jewish who don't actually do or teach what the Bible says, but twist it to say and mean what they want, the same is true with Mormons and the Book of Mormon. D&C is like the Jewish Talmud, many Jews consider the Talmud inspired, or at least follow it more closely than Torah, when it's obviously nothing close to the original in authorship, truth, or sanctity. D&C obviously went way off track, nothing like the Bible or the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a book that is nothing like what the missionaries and heads of LDS teach. While some Mormons are waking up, it's obvious the LDS Church is generally asleep to the fact that prophecy in the Book of Mormon is coming to pass, that the Holy Spirit is once again convicting folks about plural marriage in order to multiply the seed of Israel, YahsY church, His people.

You do not believe that the Bible alone is God's Word?

You do not believe that the Bible alone is God's Word?
Are you meaning to ask, You do not believe that the Protestant Canon alone is God’s Word?

I’d say that there are several of us that have realized that there is more that God has given than just what’s in the current Protestant Canon. FWIW, I have read the Book of Mormon and would not agree personally with @enlargeourtent ’s assessment of it.

Think about it. There are approximately 23 additional books listed in the Canon as authoritative by scripture that are not included in the Canon. Christ and his disciples quoted primarily from the Septuagint, and there are other books and letters that the Roman Catholic council of Nicaea, nor the later Protestant reformers allowed to be included in their infinite wisdom.

Is all of the Bible true? Absolutely! Is it all truth? (As in all that God has ever spoken or had written?). Not if you believe Scriptures own witness.

I would consider the book of Mormon extra biblical text at best, but more on the lines of someone's commentary of the word of God.
