Found this article from The Baptist Standard magazine

"John Witte, a scholar of marriage law and director of the Center for the Study of Law and Religion at Emory Law School in Atlanta, responded to questions about why prosecuting adults for polygamy is so difficult and whether the practice may one day be legalized in the U.S."

Another great article to post your comments on!

I'll start it off, Doc...

Mr. Witte is obviously not much of a "scholar of marriage law" when it comes to history or the Bible!

There's no one on this website who couldn't debunk the (hm....which word to pick?) LIE that is this:

In the Judeo-Christian tradition, monogamy came with the giving of the law on Mount Sinai—613 commandments that comprised the Torah.

Perhaps the Scholarly Lawyer Mr. Witte will explain that to the Author.

I also note, but not with any surprise, that he mentions "thousands" of Mormon and Muslim polygynous families, but ignores the Patriarchal, Christian, Messianic, Jewish, and Evangelical believers that any simple web search would find -- perhaps because they do not share his ignorance of Scripture...

But here is where this servant of the prince of this world sets his master's trap:

The experiment we’re engaging in today with respect to same-sex marriage, or alternative civil unions, or domestic partnership unions—all of which are currently available under certain state laws—is going be the beachhead on which the legalization of polygamy will have to make its case.

No, it's not. At least not for those of us who have chosen Whom we will serve.
