Hello all..

I just happened across this website and am very interested to learn as much as possible.

What about me? I am a 36 YO, divorced mother of a 6 YO. I am also an educator and graduate student who is trilingual. I am African American and my son is biracial. I truly am trying to get a better idea of how to make a home for us. While I am successful with him in keeping a loving and orderly home, there is something missing.
I hope that this website will help me to get a better insite into this way of life and how it will fit with my son and I.

With Love
Shawna

Welcome! I am sure that you will find this site very useful and informational. My wives are also educated or in the process thereof. There was an interesting post recently about educated black women and the difficulty they have in finding a suitable husband...let me get the link for you...

: D just figured out that you already found it...

Hi Shawna,
How wonderful you stumbled across this website and how wonderful you were open-minded enough to want to learn more. Welcome and blessings for you and your son. How old is your little man? We have four little men - 16, 9, 3, and 1.

Good Morning all..

Thank you for the letters of welcome.

Ive spent the better part of the morning reading and processing. I'm extremely concerned in that, as I've shared with someone earlier, my religious background is a bit different. I have been a Sufi for most of my adult life and am now studying Judaism. Why this board? Well, most plural marriage sites are filled with people doing all sorts of un G-dly things. It's a shame.

Beyond this I just read a poll of the participants online and the vast majority are Caucasian. I've never thought about race until moving to Houston. Geez..

Well, even if I don't meet a great family/guy, at least I can learn and maybe make a few friends.

Shawna,

Why what a treat to hear of your search and background! :) Thank you so much for sharing that.

A question: Would you be willing to study the fruit of Judaism, the Messiah, the annointed one of Israel, Jesus Christ? As a Jew and as the Head of his Jewish race I think it might be a fruitful study and one in which you might find just what your soul possibly longs for.

Let me know if you are interested in considering him all over for either the first time or again.

Dr. Allen

Dear Dr. Allen,

Thank you for the response.

It has been a very lengthy religious search. But it hasn't been one that has been devoid of purpose or a feeling of being lost. I have always had G-d in my life and a very personal awareness and relationship with Him. It has guided my decisions, modesty and love of my fellow man.

I am, of course, open to study. Those who are truly learned are the ones who will admit, "I don't know". I was raised in a Christian household, my father a Baptist pastor, I graduated from Baylor U. So this isn't new to me. What is new to me is the money machine that has come from religion. I didn't realize it until now. But that is another story and why I'm here and not in the parking lot of the neighborhood mega church.

I look forward to learning from you all

There certainly are some things that are unknown to be sure. Yet too there are some things that are certainly known. The well educated recognize the both/and in our complex world.

And I'm with you: I'm neither a fan of megachurches nor religions focused on the "money machine."

I'd love to chat with you some more in private messages away from the public forum.

I'll chat more with you in that area so we can dialog there.

Welcome fellow Texan. I, and my family are in Austin.

I confess I had never heard of Sufism until you mentioned it. What about Sufism has made you want to look at something else?

Chris

Hi,

Yes, most people don't think much on the mystical branches of the faiths: Gnostic Christianity, Kabbalah (Judaism) and Sufiism (Islam).

I actually went into looking at Judaism because of work with an interfaith dialog. One problem that I had was the non acceptance of the Messiah. So.. although I did like the monotheism and the overall outlook on life, it discounted Jesus. In Sufiism (Islam), Jesus is the Messiah.. soooo...

There are so many similarities and few differences, although glaring to some. I guess the more you know, the harder it is..

Sigh

hey we are near houston too..the 4 of us should get together for a fellowship lunch on a sunday sometime soon

Looks like I have missed a lot.

My father recently had a heart transplant so we've been very busy here. With that and preparing to graduate, I'm just getting back to anything half way interesting.

I hope everyone is doing well.

God bless
