No longer lurking :)

My husband and I have been open to the concept of plural marriage for several years now. We are a Christian family but don't really identify ourselves as religious for many personal reasons. We've been active members of several other polygamy friendly sites but all have seemed to fall short of meeting our needs in one way or another. We've been married for over six years now and have no children except for our five (yes five) dogs. Currently we live in Albuquerque, NM but hate it here and have been trying to relocate somewhere close to water, trees, and grass again. I can't wait to start meeting some of the people here and also reconnect with the current friends who finally convinced me to quit lurking and sign up.

Welcome Swinn. Water, trees, and grass - sounds like Florida! We got those in spades. Now if we only had jobs and a functioning economy, we'd have something. Hope you make some new friends and find some support here. Let us know how we can serve you,

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the welcome so quick :) We did actually look at a job position in FL a few months back, for me the thought of alligators wandering into the yard and eating my little pug scared me to death. The chance of a hurricane also scared the both of us and we decided not to apply for the position. Were our fears unfounded? Maybe but most of our family is west coast and that also played a role in where we have considered moving.

Depends on what your meaning of "unfounded" is (he says in his best 'Clinton'): Do I worry about our family Australian Shepard getting eaten, when he goes for a swim by himself in the lake in the backyard after a run? - I do. Mating season is just around the corner, and he's got to stop swimming at dusk, or there's a fair chance he won't make it to 2 (he's 18 months old). I worry less when the kids swim in the lake (don't ask). OK, I better address that, or somebody's going to think I'm a terrible parent - see, I have 4 kids, but one dog... WAIT, that's NOT the right answer either: We make a lot of noise when we swim in the lake, gators hate that, and we don't (OK, rarely) swim at dusk. Gators normally don't like people, but they LOVE dogs. My solution is to be a serial mono-caninist, rather than a poly-caninist like you. If Jet 'gets it', we'll cry and mourn and celebrate him, and then quickly replace him - trust me, I've already prepared the kids for this possiblity. But you do have a solution: do what 95% of Florida dog-owners do: don't live near a lake, and don't take your dog walking near lakes without a leash (no way a gator takes a dog more then 3 feet from the water). Oh, and probably, don't take your swim-lovin' dog kayaking in gator-infested rivers. I took this picture from my kayak, with the dog in my lap. Really. This guy, by the way, is a confirmed dog eater - he's way too big for the little river he lives in, and therefore has gained a little infamy. When I pass paddler's with little dogs in their boats, I like to say 'Oh, that's so nice of you to bring snacks for the gators'.

But hurricanes? That's unfounded. Just live 15 miles away from the ocean (insurance drops too), and be prepared to leave in the unlikely event of a Cat-5 coming your way. No biggie.

I gotta go to bed, I think the dog needs to go out first...

Hi, Swinn!

It's so nice to meet you and I hope to get to know you better! My husband, Paul, and I live in Georgia and we have 5 kids (which are sometimes louder and eat more than a pack of 5 dogs). There's a lot of water, trees and grass here. No hurricanes or gators, but also no jobs to speak of.

Hey, Swinn.

I don't mind the lurkers except for when they are "shy". Welcome to the forum! : )

Swinn! Glad to "see" you again! How goes the war hammer cries from the other room? LOL. (geek hubby reference for those who do not get it).

I'll see ya around the Ville sometime. ;)

Wow thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Yup we're poly-caninist as Nathan put it (I like that word might start using it :D ) we volunteered with dog rescue for several years and a couple extras stuck around, but they're all super loved and spoiled. No kids yet but have been starting the adoption process which in turn would put being a poly family on hold for a while but whichever God brings into our lives first we are open too. Georgia is beautiful but yeah we haven't seen any postings around there for over a year now. At this point we've been trying to get transferred for about two years but there are quite a few components that we always have to consider before applying for any of the positions such as schools, job security in that market, housing, and of course: water trees and grass. A shout out to Fay :D (I know kill me later) who is an awesome friend and ventured out to say hello. Haha and yes the hubby is geeky, but geek is in right? He's a comic book reading gamer kinda guy and it's kinda sexy esp when he is fixing my blackberry or computer. I got lucky and got one of the good ones for sure!

Texas has grass, trees and lots of lakes. We also have a fairly healthy economy and if you land in DFW we have a church for you.

Welcome!
My family lives near Fort Worth, TX. My husband and I have 7 children so far. My best friend joined our family about a year ago as my husband's 2nd wife. We have no dogs, but we do have 3 Betta fish (1 male and 2 females!) and a little turtle!
Since we are voting about where you live, I vote for TX, too. :D I grew up in Ohio, I definitely don't vote for there! My husband and I lived in Florida for 8 years and we all moved to TX because the economy is better here. (It had nothing to do with the alligators!) I LOVE TX! Everyone is SO much friendlier to our large family! I really feel at home here. I think TX is a great place to raise a family!
Bonus: We are starting a church where plural families can gather together to worship the Lord and edify each other!

For the record, the churches in the two above posts are the same church, so you don't have to choose.

Great to have you on board Swinn!! If your husband is a geek I already like him. I love messing with anything electronic. Especially computer programming and software.

If you're looking for a place to move to then you can move to North Carolina and have one of my jobs. I'd LOVE to lose one. Plus we have four different distinct seasons as well. You get the heat as well as the cold and snow. And we're starting up home groups here like they are in Florida too and would love to have you guys.

P.S. Get some dogs that are the size of my Great Pyrenees and then the gators will worry about getting eat by the dogs.
