The Steve Trophy

Just leave appropriate offerings at his doorstep . . . .

You had best ask for a definition, it might just be an insult.

Btw; the Ascended Member Hall is getting crowded. You can’t swing a cat in here without hitting someone.

What did you do? How do we attain such lofty heights?

To get "The Steve Trophy" you have to be like Steve as much as possible. That means you have to speak in the tongues of men and angels. You have to have the gift of prophecy and fathom all mysteries and knowledge and have faith that can move mountains. You have to give all that you have to the poor and sacrifice your body to the flames if called upon.

And even then it might not be enough.

But I might have mis-read it.

It means you've made 2000 posts. But there's a funny little backstory that few people know...

One day, @FollowingHim2 and @Tali were on ladies chat together. Tali mentioned that @steve was "a little miffed" that he had so many more posts than anybody else, but there was no trophy for it. We'd just upgraded the website, which had these new trophies. By default the highest trophy was for 1000 posts, and he had 2000 posts. Now we knew that was just some throwaway comment Steve would have made as a joke without actually meaning it, but it was nevertheless inspirational...
@FollowingHim2 told me, I went online, and within a few minutes Steve had his own trophy, with an appropriate name. At the time he was the only person eligible for it, and it took a long time before anyone else reached it also.
He found it embarrassing at the time, and probably still does. But @FollowingHim2, @Tali and myself found it hilarious.

Later on, @andrew got payback by putting my name on another trophy.

That’s who I want to be when I grow up. :D

Might be time to create some new trophies. Some big talkers here have well exceeded the top stats.

Can we have a trophy for how many times someone’s post get quoted?
No, that's unfortunately not an option. The best measure of "quality" I have is the ratio of likes to comments.

There are two trophies that reflect this:
- Valued contributor = At least 25 posts, and same number of likes received as posts made (ie on average each post gets liked once). 10 points
- Highly valued contributor = At least 25 posts, and 2x likes received as posts made (ie on average each post gets liked twice). 20 points.

Unfortunately, the way it's set up, these are swamped by the points rewarded for pure volume. E.g. 3000 posts gets 50 points. I should take another look at these "valued contributor" measures, and make them more nuanced and far more rewarding than post volume. The person that says little but when they speak you know you should pay attention as it's usually solid gold is the person who needs more recognition in this way - those who post a lot are already recognised because you see them everywhere.

Soooooo, is the Steve Award going to be the Bib Fam equiv of an Oscar????
Kind of a Big Mouth thing.

Whether it’s a reward or a punishment is in the eye of the beholder.

Knowing he after whom it was named, it is an honorific award denoting both persistence and verbosity, neither of which this crowd will tolerate unless mixed with wisdom. A high 'like' count generally indicates the latter...
