Marriage In Eternity

I try to view God from a standpoint of a loving father, who wants us to be happy. I believe that marriage is the greatest gift and tender mercy we have been given with exception only to the greatest gift of all which is our Savior Jesus Christ.

Some people will look at certain scripture and interpret it to mean that there is no marriage in the next life, or the other thing often overlooked is that scripture itself has gone through many translations over the centuries, mingled with the theology of man. At times it requires discernment and personal revelation as to the correct context and the message God is trying to teach us.

I fully believe that the correct way to view the whole claim of there being no marriage in the next life is simply that you choose what you want in this mortal life. For those who choose marriage, they will certainly continue to choose it and have their marriages in the next life, if everyone is still willing and worthy. But for those who didn’t choose it in this life, will probably not choose it in the next life either because their spirit that possesses them here in mortality will continue to be who they are eternally. It is by their own doing and choosing.

I do not believe for even a moment that a man and a woman who fall in love, give themselves to each other, to share a lifetime of beauty, love, difficulties at times that they overcame together, children, and building a broader family or kingdom, all the memories of their children growing up, smiles on faces, their love shared, just for everyone to go their own separate way, alone, throw it all out, and ended at death. What a sad, miserable and heartbreaking despair to contemplate. That is not the attributes of what God is trying to give us here. God is building us into greater people who are His children, with more love, with bigger families, more children, to turn us into patriarch and matriarch(s), if we choose to learn those greater gifts and understand Him. Just my two cents worth.

Good afternoon all,

So apparently I got the category right when I posted this the first time.

I’m sure this has been discussed somewhere before, but I’ve been struggling with Matthew 22/Luke 20/Mark 12; the exchange between Jesus and the Sadducees, where Christ seems to suggest that Marriage will cease at the resurrection.

I doubt this reading particularly given Isaiah 65 and Ezekiel 37. That said, I am fully willing to admit I do not want marriage and childbearing (or even Polygyny) to cease after the resurrection. But I am also willing to conform myself to scripture.

Very curious for y’all’s thoughts on this.
I've given much thought to this topic over the years. My current thinking is the following:

1) The Egyptians introduced the wedding ring to the world as a symbol of eternal union. Their mythology taught that once a couple gets married, then their marriage would continue into eternity in their heaven called the "Field of Reeds". Coincidence that this directly contradicts Jesus teaching about marriage in heaven? Or dark spiritual forces at play even at the dawn of human history?

2) This gets a bit more theoretical - God tells us in Genesis after the fall that man will not live past 120 years old. Moses passed at exactly this age. There are other examples in Scripture you can find.

Current population statistics tell us that sometime between the years 2030-2035 approximately 120 billion humans will have ever existed.

One day is as 1000 years to God - Jesus said He would rise on the third day, which implies being absent for 2 days (2 days equals 2000 years to God), therefore, His Second Coming is likely sometime between the years 2030-2035 depending on when you believe He was crucified.

All that to say God may be using the number 120 to symbolize human life completion, so maybe once we've reached 120 billion people to ever have existed, then the Second Coming will occur and all 120 billion people will exist in God's Kingdom (if you're a universal reconciliationist like myself) and procreation will cease.

Marriage and procreation were only meant to serve as the temporary template for humanity to understand and walk in God's image (male + female = child) until we're transfigured and made like the angels as Jesus says, after which the exclusivity of marriage is done away with and we will be granted an unfathomable access to one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Hope this helps.

Lots of good things there. I fall back to, "Eye has not seen..." the wonderful things in heaven However, whether Heaven will tolerate marriage may go back to whether it was good! I had good times with the ex- we had four kiddos after but please don't saddle me with her.

I think that’s totally fair. I strongly believe that it will be a matter of agency. If a man and a woman share a life of love together and wish to be together eternally, I can’t imagine a loving God denying that. On the flipside, I can’t imagine a loving God, forcing two people to be together who don’t want to be.

I think that people will be perfect in Heaven and love will be perfect.
I don’t think that we can imagine correctly what relationships will be like.
