A Bit About Me

Lol, a naval base in the middle of the California desert would be Miramar. That “grumpy military dude” was most likely a Marine.
Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake. We were on our way to the Trona Pinnacles, and the GPS which should have told us to turn right before the base, took us straight into the base. By the time we realised the road was becoming a military checkpoint it was too late to turn around and go back without driving down the road the wrong way and looking highly suspicious! Had to wait 15 minutes or so while they decided if we were spies or not (idiotic spies who tried to just drive in the front gate). We're probably still on a list somewhere.

I must honestly say that I have never in my life used GPS, but I can't say that I have never gotten steered wrong by google maps.

China Lake is no joke. There used to be experimental armories there.

I use google maps now, but I started out navigating with the old county maps, and got proficient using that way before I ever had a phone.
We had streetfinders, a book of maps showing all the streets in whatever area. They didn't give you a "blue line" to follow, but did let you have a birds eye view of the streets around you.

Hi everyone!

I'm Jenna, 19, female, from California. I'm Christian by faith though finding my beliefs don't fit in establishment churches very often.

I found the forum because of a journey I've been on to discover my purpose and place in the world. I was raised by a single mom, and while I have so much love and respect for my mom, I also see how it wasn't ideal to not have a stronger home with more traditional gender roles. In my search, I was fortunate enough to have a mentor who explained a lot of things from a Biblical perspective about family, marriage, and the roles of men and women - and that polygyny was a part of that which is how I ended up here. I also am a fan of MeganC's blog (hi Megan!)

I do work for now, as a receptionist, and in my spare time enjoy cooking, exercising, reading and so on. I'm pretty simple and old fashioned by nature. I'm looking forward to learning from you all and getting to know you better.

Welcome Jenna!

Yeah! We called it a Mapsco. Each page had a map on both sides, and it would tell you what page it continued on in each direction. I also recall when the state map would give you a chart with distances in mileage, from one city to the next.

Hello Jenna it is ok if your believes do not fit exactly into a church hope you find the infromation your looking for. Listen to the Holy Spirit to guide you.

Welcome to the group. For better or worse, CA has been my home forever. Cooking is also a favorite of mine. I am not sure if gardening was the inspiration to follow that or the reverse. I do love to garden, and now working on building a small orchard of fruits and nut trees. Look forward to knowing you more.
